Celebrities have long been icons of style, as fans pore over what (and who) they're wearing, scrambling to get their latest look. But some stars have developed a real passion for fashion, if you will, and wanted to make that connection to their fans more direct by designing entire collections and labels. And they've had varying degrees of success...
Kim Kardashian's clothing brand had a rocky start under the highly criticized name of Kimono Intimates, but after changing the name to Skims, she's seen huge success. She announced on June 28 that Skims will serve as Team USA’s official provider of undergarments and pajamas for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, as well as for the Paralympics.
“When I received the call inviting Skims to be a part of @TeamUSA, every moment I’ve spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle,” the reality TV star tweeted, citing her experiences as a young girl learning about the Olympics from Caitlyn Jenner and "grow[ing] to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied."
This is the first time a brand has been named as the team’s official underwear provider, Page Six reports, but Team USA will continue to wear Ralph Lauren uniforms as they have since 2008. The Skims Olympic intimates and loungewear—as modeled by soccer star Alex Morgan, basketball player A’ja Wilson, Paralympian Scout Bassett, swimmer Haley Anderson, and track and field athlete Dalilah Muhammad—are all emblazoned with the US flag, Team USA, and the Olympic rings. Kim also revealed that fans will be able to purchase the pieces as part of a special capsule collection.
